Modelling Pod in Maya

Here is the beggining screen grabs of the modelling process for my pods. I created its basic outline shape and extruded it to add a thickness to it. Another part of my design that had to be included was the footrest which added to the comfort. I created it as a seperate object and now was time to combine them. I made sure that i detailed the outside shape as cllose to the design as possible. I had to cut out the faces on the original shape to create an open pod for room to allow feet to rest outwards as seen above

Final design for pod

This is my final design for my pod. Now it is time to create this as best I can using Maya in oreder too hand it over to Nathan to texture.

Concept art

Now it was time that I started to look at designing my own and brainstorming different ideas for them. Brief descriptions and labbles are included in the drawings to give you a better understanding of them.

Pod research continued

Here is some more research looking at pods and their shapes and concepts

The research stage

Here I have included some research that I did looking into pods and getting ideas for my concepts. At this stage it was vital that I specifically looked for patterns emerging in their designs and made sure that I did not copy any existing ones.

Futuristic Pods

The idea was that in the new church we would use pods for the people of the church to sit in during a service and they would float up and down. These pods to me meant that they had to be comfortable for people to sit in and we decided rather than old church seating which are divided only by rows we would do the complete opposite and have individual pods for the people to sit in. I began to reserach different designs for pods as this was an important task to me and therefore wanted to impress the group.

Ideas finalised team "Spirit"

The ideas of what our plan for the storyboard is has been finalised and completed at this stage. The storyboard can be found on the group blog and in basic terms there idea is that the camera is shown through the eyes of a spirit who visits an old 13th century church and after looking aroung all goes dark then to reveal a futuristic church. Stephen designed and modelled the old church and Deepa the futuristic one. Guy later on helped add with the modelling and texturing as did Nathan. My job soon became clear that I was to help out with anything that was needed on the inside of the churches ie furniture and lamps etc. This was a great chance to help out as a modeller and really get some experience as it was not something I was confident or fluent in at the start of this project. Also I would show some research for my ideas to back them up although as a late edition to the group time was against me.
